Landscape Design & Build Services

Custom Pools for Specific Projects

Concrete, marbleite, and porcelain-tiled pools offer design flexibility that suits certain properties and architectural styles. At Horvath Landscapes, these pool types are undertaken selectively, when the site, scope, and project goals align with the added complexity they involve.

Unlike fiberglass pools, which are manufactured off-site, concrete pools are built in place. This allows for greater freedom in shape, depth, and finish, but it also introduces additional coordination, construction time, and technical considerations.

When Concrete or Porcelain Pools Make Sense

These pool types are most appropriate when:

  • A project requires custom geometry or non-standard dimensions

  • Porcelain tile or specialty finishes are a core design requirement

  • The surrounding landscape and architecture demand a seamless material transition

  • The site can support longer construction timelines and staging

Because of these factors, not every project is a good candidate. Our role is to help determine whether this approach is suitable before commitments are made.

Planning and Technical Coordination

Concrete pool projects require careful planning around structure, waterproofing, finishes, and sequencing. These projects are approached with a clear understanding of how they integrate into the broader landscape.

Structural engineering is coordinated externally where required, and construction is sequenced to minimize disruption and rework. Finishes such as marbleite or porcelain tile are selected with attention to long-term durability and compatibility with surrounding hardscape.

How These Pools Compare to Fiberglass

Fiberglass pools remain our primary pool offering due to their efficiency and predictable performance. Concrete and porcelain-tiled pools are considered when a project’s requirements go beyond what fiberglass can reasonably provide.

Understanding the differences early helps avoid mismatched expectations and ensures the selected pool type supports the overall project goals.

Integration with the Landscape

As with all our work, concrete and porcelain-tiled pools are designed as part of a complete outdoor environment. Grades, circulation, planting, lighting, and adjacent hardscape are planned together to ensure the finished space functions well and feels cohesive.

This integrated approach is essential for complex builds where multiple systems and materials meet.

Service Areas and Project Fit

Concrete and porcelain-tiled pool projects are typically undertaken in and around Aurora, Richmond Hill, Newmarket, and King. Larger or more architecturally complex projects may be considered in Markham, North York, or Toronto when scope and site conditions are appropriate.

Starting a Project

Projects involving concrete or porcelain-tiled pools benefit from early discussion. Engaging us during the planning stage allows feasibility, technical coordination, and landscape integration to be addressed before construction begins.

If you are considering a custom pool as part of a larger outdoor project, we recommend starting the conversation early.
