A Business Built Over Generations

Horvath Landscapes is a family-run landscape design–build company with roots going back several generations. Steve Horvath founded the business in 1976, and Matthew Horvath began his own landscape business in 1999. Since then, the two have worked together continuously, building the company into what it is today.

Even before that, the Horvath family was involved in landscape maintenance and outdoor work. That long-term exposure to how landscapes age, shift, and require care has shaped how projects are planned and built today.

How the Company Operates Today

Horvath Landscapes is owner-operated. Matthew Horvath is involved throughout the entire project lifecycle and is typically present on site during construction. His role is to support the crew, coordinate equipment and materials, ensure the design is being followed, and address questions as they arise.

Day-to-day execution is led by an experienced foreman who is responsible for build quality, site standards, and making sure work proceeds professionally. The company operates with clear systems and redundancy in equipment so projects can continue smoothly even when unexpected issues arise.

What We Do

Horvath Landscapes plans and builds complete outdoor environments. While the company does not perform licensed trades such as electrical or gas fitting directly, it works closely with trusted partners for those services and coordinates them as part of the overall project.

Typical work includes:

  • Complete landscape design–build projects

  • Swimming pools and integrated hardscape

  • Planting and softscape installation

  • Landscape lighting

  • Fire and water features

  • Decks, pergolas, and wood structures

  • Concrete pads and equipment bases

While individual scopes can be taken on, most clients choose to have the entire project completed under one coordinated plan.

A Design-First, Planned Approach

Every project begins with design. Problems are solved on paper first so they do not become expensive or disruptive during construction. This approach minimizes surprises, reduces change orders, and allows the project to proceed in a controlled sequence.

Quotes are complete and transparent. Materials are not marked up, and clients can see exactly where costs come from. This makes it easier to explore options during the design and quoting phase without confusion or pressure.

Changes during construction are rare and typically only occur when something hidden on site could not have been known during design, or when the client chooses to modify the scope.

 

Build Quality and Long-Term Performance

Projects are built for Canadian conditions, where freeze-thaw cycles can affect even well-constructed landscapes. Systems are designed so that if small adjustments are ever required, they can be handled efficiently rather than becoming major repairs.

Build quality, site safety, and long-term serviceability are non-negotiable. Ease of maintenance is considered during material selection and detailing so landscapes continue to perform well over time.

 

Warranties and Ongoing Support

Horvath Landscapes provides:

  • A two-year workmanship warranty on hardscape

  • A one-year warranty on planting

Beyond formal warranties, the company prioritizes long-term relationships. Follow-ups after winter and seasonal movement are common, and small adjustments are handled fairly. Even years later, clients can request touch-ups or refinements and are charged only reasonable labour costs.

The goal is not short-term completion, but long-term satisfaction.
